After lengthy delays and confusion, my job at the newly built Chilean Heliski Puma Lodge finally started. It’s situated south east of Rancagua in the Chilean Andes, not far from the Argentine border. The area is spectacular. Soaring peaks on all sides and tumbling river below. Although we’re only 2.5 hours from Santiago, it feels a wild and remote place to wake up every morning. There are usually a few Condors soaring lazily high above us and we’ve already spotted some Puma tracks.
The skiing operation still hasnt got underway as we’ve been finishing the lodge preparation; building furniture, cleaning and generally making it look pretty. First guests arrive tomorrow so all being well we should be sparking up the chopper and taking to the hills!
